Enriching lives through art and learning

Discover Kelley Assessment and Planning Services (KAPS), where creativity meets cognitive development. We empower seniors through engaging art classes and transform their artwork into educational games for students and individuals with cognitive impairments. Join us in making a difference in east Alabama, West Georgia and beyond.

Art for seniors, purpose for all

At KAPS, we established the Senior Art Initiative with a dual purpose. We provide calming and enjoyable watercolor and acrylic painting classes for low-income senior citizens, offering them a vital creative outlet. More importantly, their beautiful artwork is then transformed into educational games designed to help cognitively impaired students and seniors enhance cognitive skills and learn basic vocabulary and foundational reading abilities.

Unique learning through creative connection

What sets KAPS apart is our integrated approach. We intentionally select senior art projects that lend themselves to creating educational games. Imagine seniors painting dogs, rabbits, or sunflowers – these vibrant pieces become the foundation for engaging activities like picture bingo and word-to-picture matching games, perfectly tailored to support learning for cognitively impaired individuals. This innovative cycle of creativity and education is at the heart of our mission.

Reaching every generation

While our core focus is on low-income seniors and cognitively impaired students, our initiatives have a broader reach. We are eager to expand our painting classes to other seniors in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, bringing joy and artistic expression to more individuals. Our educational games also benefit all pre-K through early elementary school students, regardless of cognitive ability, as well as individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer's, fostering engagement and cognitive stimulation.

Our passion for helping others

KAPS was initially established to help struggling colleges improve their programs. After the owner/manager retired from higher education, he transitioned the organization's focus to assisting various disadvantaged groups in the private sector. With Masters in Counseling and Doctor of Education degrees, he passionately merged his expertise to create initiatives that truly matter. Facilitating painting classes for low-income seniors and developing educational games for individuals with cognitive impairment perfectly aligns with his vision to positively impact lives.
